HYDRIOL® CLA (INCI: Sodium Caproyl/Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium Citrate) is a 100% natural, anionic surfactant. This biodegradable ester is based on renewable vegetable raw materials. It is engineered to provide superior foaming power and skin mildness. Within the framework of natural cosmetics, it offers a rich sensory profile and excellent compatibility with other green surfactants.
Key Benefits and Performance
-
Enhanced Foaming Power: It significantly improves both the initial foam height and the lather quality. It creates a dense, creamy foam that consumers often miss when switching to natural sulfate-free systems.
-
Inherent Mildness: Because it is based on lactylates (esters of lactic acid), it is exceptionally gentle on the skin barrier and eyes. It is perfectly suited for baby shampoos and sensitive skin cleansers.
-
Synergistic Co-Surfactant: It performs best when paired with Alkyl Polyglucosides (APGs) like Decyl or Coco Glucoside. This combination stabilizes the foam and improves the overall viscosity of the formula.
-
Skin & Hair Conditioning: Beyond cleansing, the lactylate structure leaves a perceptible “conditioning” film, reducing the “squeaky” or stripped feeling often caused by harsh detergents.
Formulation Guidelines
-
Primary Functions: Mild anionic surfactant, foam booster, and conditioning agent.
-
Hard Water Optimization: In conditions with very hard water, its performance can be slightly hindered. The manufacturer recommends adding a small amount of Sodium Citrate or a chelator (like Sodium Gluconate) to maintain peak foam volume.
-
Applications: Ideal for foam baths, liquid soaps, baby care, and natural shampoos.
HYDRIOL® CLA is a PEG-free anionic surfactant (Sodium Caproyl Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium citrate), offering excellent foaming power, improving both foam height and quality in finished formulations. Mild by nature, it is well suited to baby shampoos, foam bath products, liquid soaps, and natural cosmetic applications. It performs particularly well as a co-surfactant in combination with alkyl polyglucosides, and shows good compatibility within natural formulation frameworks. In hard water conditions, the addition of a small amount of sodium citrate or another chelating agent is recommended to maintain optimal performance.
