Caprocine

Caprocine is a multifunctional capryloyl glycine that regulates the skin’s ecosystem by controlling sebum production. It acts as a biological shield, indirectly limiting the growth of organisms that thrive on excess oil while providing direct antimicrobial activity against a broad range of pathogens.

Key Benefit: Targets the root cause of acne and dandruff by inhibiting 5 alpha-reductase, the key enzyme responsible for sebum production.

Performance & Biological Activity

  • Sebum Regulation: By reducing sebum availability, it starves sebum-dependent organisms like Propionibacterium acnes and Malassezia furfur.
  • Deodorizing Efficacy: Demonstrates activity against body-odor-associated bacteria, including Staphylococcus epidermidis and Corynebacteria.
  • Preservation Synergy: Acts synergistically with Pentylene Glycol (A-Leen 5); in an O/W emulsion at pH 5.5, this combination meets ISO 11930 Criteria A.
  • Broad-Spectrum Support: MIC data confirms activity against standard challenge organisms including S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, E. coli, A. brasiliensis, and C. albicans.

Formulation & Handling Guidelines

Caprocine’s physical behavior is highly dependent on pH and processing order. It needs to be dissolved in hot water or in cold water at pH above 7

Processing Tip: To ensure product uniformity, Caprocine should be added after the thickening agent is fully hydrated

Oils or surfactants help to keep it in solution.
